by Mike McEvoy, Executive Director of Construction for Change
Seventeen years ago, when we first started Construction for Change, I felt a powerful sense of pride being on-site in Zambia in 2008 and 2009, and again in Cambodia in 2011. I saw firsthand the incredible need for infrastructure and witnessed the pride that local communities took in their new facilities.
Those moments solidified my belief in the importance of CfC’s mission and the unique opportunity we have to empower communities through social infrastructure.
Our Growth Together
Fast forward to today, and that sense of pride is just as strong, if not stronger. CfC has grown up in remarkable ways. We’ve developed and stayed true to core values such as empowering local project managers and advancing gender equity. We’ve learned and grown from our mistakes along the way, and now we are focused on maximizing the global impact we can make with the resources we have.
It’s exciting to see where the organization is today — there’s a maturity in the work, in the team, and in the values that make CfC the force for change it is today.
I want to take a moment to thank Scott Lewis for his incredible leadership as Interim Executive Director. Scott’s dedication to CfC over the past decade — whether as a board member, chair, or interim leader — has been instrumental in positioning us for this next stage of growth. I am grateful that Scott will remain deeply involved in our work through his role in Strategic Partnerships, where his leadership will help us create new opportunities and grow our impact even further.
The Impact I Hope To Make Together
I am thrilled to jump back into CfC as Executive Director because I believe in how important our work is now more than ever. After nearly two decades in campus ministry, I’m eager to make a tangible difference for communities in need, both locally and globally. I may not have a personal vision for where we are going just yet, but I believe in the foundation we’ve built and the history we carry forward.
There is so much potential to scale our impact — not just in far-off places, but right here in our own backyard.
What excites me most is the belief that most communities already have the people, the passion, and the vision they need to thrive. Sometimes, all they need is a boost — a building or two that helps unlock potential and turn dreams into reality. CfC’s role is to stand alongside these communities, providing the infrastructure they need to actualize their vision and increase their impact.
How We Grow Further
As I step into this role, I’m eager to re-engage with the incredible community of supporters who have been with CfC every step of the way. But we can’t stop there. One of my goals is to introduce CfC to an even broader group of people — throughout Seattle, across the United States, and around the world. Together, we can grow this movement, empower more communities, and make an even bigger impact.
Thank you for your continued support of CfC. I look forward to meeting many of you in the weeks and months ahead and working with you to take CfC to new heights. There’s so much to look forward to, and I’m grateful to have you along for the journey.
Here’s to building opportunities Bigger Than Buildings,
Mike McEvoy
